- The Broome Dusters were
Binghamton's first pro hockey team. The
Duster years are split into two eras. The
team originated in the North American Hockey
League. Jim Matthews helped create the league
and owned the Dusters.

- The Dusters led the NAHL
in attendance during its four years of
existance. Binghamton was often praised by
The Hockey News and was even declared "HockeyTown,
USA." The NAHL was the league behind the
movie "Slapshot" and has long been
known for living up to the goon hockey image.

- The Broome Dusters were
sold to Andre Veilleu and the Binghamton
Dusters were accepted into the American
Hockey League after the NAHL folded. The
Dusters led the AHL in attendance their first
season in the league. The Dusters were sold
to the Hartford Whalers in 1980 and the team
became the Binghamton Whalers in time for the
1980-81 AHL season.
